Personal Connections- Displaying Emotion

Morrie has a problem with Mitch's inability to show emotion. Mitch doesn't like to cry, and as such is like most guys. Do you think that it is OK for men to shed tears? Are there situations when it is appropriate and when they are not (for either gender)? Does crying make anyone (male for female) look weak? Why do you think this even became an issue? Who is to blame?

Personal connections-Regret

There are a lot of issues that arise when reading this book. Both Mitch and Morrie have regrets on decisions they have made in life. Remaining school appropriate, and trying to not divulge too much personal information, describe a time when you regretted a choice that you made. Why do you regret your decision? How will it shape your future? Do you think about that choice often?

All about Mitch.

Mitch goes through a lot of change in the novel. We learn about Mitch as a teenager, and have a few glimpses of him as a child. What types of changes do we get to see by reading the novel? How old was Mitch when these changes happened? What caused the change to come about? Was the change a positive or negative change?

Morrie's Changes

Throughout the novel Morrie goes through a lot of change. Discuss these changes, and state whether they are physical or mental. How do the changes that Morrie undergoes effect his relationships with the other characters? Do the changes that Morrie experiences effect the story?

Aphorisms

Throughout the novel Morrie will say several aphorisms. Aphorisms are defined as having some general truthful advice or being a stated observation. Using these statements found in the novel, discuss their meaning. Why are these statements more or less important? What examples from the book point this out?
